How to Make Fresh Pumpkin Pie.

Early, in October I posted about making fresh pumpkin pie. I never quite understood why pumpkin pie was so sweet, and creamy if it came out of a pumpkin. Canned, pumpkin pie filling is typically a mix of squash, seasoned with plenty of sugar, cinnamon, cardamon, nutmeg, and other chemical additives.  Homemade fresh pumpkin pie is superior in taste, quality, cost, and worry free because we get to control the ingredients and know exactly what’s in it. Cooking our pumpkin to make pumpkin pie took us about 3 hours. If I could do it over, I would buy small pumpkins for making pumpkin pie. Cutting through a big pumpkin to cook in the oven took some muscle and was a whole lot messy.

Ingredients:

One sweet pumpkin for pumpkin Pie

Ingredients for Crust:

1/13 Cups of all purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup shortening

3 1/2 tablespoons cold water

Filling Ingredients:

2 Cups mashed, cooked pumpkin

1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk

2 eggs, Beaten

3/4 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Step 1: Set the Oven to 350 degrees

Step 2: Cut a circle around the pumpkin stem

Step 3: Cut the pumpkin in half

Step 4: Gut the pumpkin by removing all of the hair and seeds from inside and make some pumpkin seeds later or toss away.

Step 5: Cut the pumpkin Into Pieces that fit on a large baking sheet, Fit pumpkin pieces on large baking sheet

Step 6: Cover pumpkin pieces in Coconut Oil

Step 7: Place in the oven for 1-3 hours depending on how big your pumpkin is. stick a fork through to check tenderness.

Step 8: Once ready, scrape pumpkin off the peel and place in large bowl Step 9: Use food processor or mixer to puree pumpkin
You will use 2 cups of Pumpkin to make your pumpkin pie.

Pumpkin Pie Recipe Below:
Step 1 : To make the pie preheat your oven to 400 degrees.


Step 2: Add 1 can of evaporated milk to your 2 cups of smashed pumpkin 2 eggs, beaten 3/4 cup packed brown sugar1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 12 teaspoon ground ginger1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix ingredients together and set aside while you make the crust.
Pastry for singel crust pie: 1 1/3 Cups all purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 12 cup shortening 3 1/2 table spoons cold water


Step 3: Mix together flour and salt. Cut Shortening into flour; add cold water 1 tablespoon at a time. (you may need only 3 tablespoons, or up to 4 tablespoons.) Mix dough and repeat until dough is moist enough to hold together.
Step 4: White lightly floured hands, shape dough into a ball. On a lightly floured board roll dough out to about 1/8 inch thickness. with sharp knife, cut dough 1 1/2 inch larger tan the upside-down 8-to 9 inch pie pan. Gently roll the dough around the rolling pin and transfer it right-side up onto the pie pan. Unroll, easing dough into the bottom of the pan.
Step 5: Pour already beaten pumpkin mix into prepared crust.

Step 6: Bake 40 minutes or until when a knife is inserted 1 inch from the edge comes out clean.

Here’s what the mix to your pumpkin pie will look like before mixing.

Here’s the mix after mixing, and pouring into prepared crust. Don’t worry if it looks runny, it is typically runny until it cooks. if you are worried about it, feel free to add an extra egg.

Here’s the finished fresh pumpkin pie. It was delicious! Just warm your piece before eating, and add whipped cream.
